Automatic coverage and older cohorts

Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents born in 1980 or later are automatically covered from age 30. From 1 January 2026, people born in 1979 or earlier who enrol must have no pre-existing disabilities. MOH, CareShield Life review FAQs (opens in a new tab).

Severe disability and continuing payouts

A MOH-accredited assessor must establish inability to perform at least three of six activities of daily living. Monthly payouts continue while severe disability persists. Payouts grow until age 67 or the first successful claim, whichever occurs earlier. CPF Board's illustration for someone born in 1980 claiming in 2026 shows S$689 monthly. Existing claims have separate treatment

People who were already receiving payouts before 1 January 2026 keep their existing payout amount under the revised arrangements. MOH, CareShield Life review FAQs (opens in a new tab).

Premium payment periods

Premiums are payable using MediSave. Someone joining before age 59 pays until age 67; someone joining at age 59 or later pays for 10 years. The personalised premium is available through the logged-in service rather than a single universal charge. CPF Board, CareShield Life premiums and subsidies (opens in a new tab).

Premium increases from 2026

For 2026–2030, annual premium increases are moderated to about S$38 on average and no more than S$75 after premium support. These figures describe increases rather than the full premium payable. MOH, CareShield Life review FAQs (opens in a new tab).

Scope

This is general information, with no personal premium quote, disability assessment or payout projection. The illustrated monthly amount is not an entitlement for every claimant.
