What the BHS measures
The Basic Healthcare Sum is the estimated savings needed in MediSave for basic subsidised healthcare needs in old age. It is also the maximum balance that a member can hold in their MediSave Account. CPF Board, Basic Healthcare Sum (opens in a new tab).
Annual limit and fixed cohort limit
For members below age 65 in 2026, the prevailing BHS is S$79,000 and is reviewed annually. Members who turn 65 in 2026 have a cohort BHS of S$79,000 that stays fixed thereafter. Members already above 65 retain their own cohort's fixed limit, which can differ from the 2026 figure. CPF Board, Basic Healthcare Sum (opens in a new tab).
Contributions and allocations are different
Employee CPF contributions are allocated between CPF accounts under age-dependent rules. The total amount paid by an employee and employer is therefore different from the amount credited to MediSave. CPF Board publishes the allocations for each applicable age band. CPF Board, saving as an employee (opens in a new tab).
Scope of this explanation
This is general information about the 2026 limit. The catalogue CPF calculator calculates total employment CPF contributions only, rather than MediSave allocations or balances. It does not assess medical needs, eligibility for a particular MediSave withdrawal or whether a contribution is appropriate for you.
