How we compare

How we compare things

One page covering every comparison table on this site: where the numbers come from, how often they are checked, how we are paid, and how to tell us something is wrong.

Where the numbers come from

Figures are read from each issuer's own published page on the date shown beside it. Amounts are pounds sterling (GBP). The purchase rate is the advertised standard rate after any introductory offer; introductory 0% offers are excluded. The foreign transaction fee is the non-sterling purchase fee. Interest-free days apply only when the balance is paid in full and on time. A figure the page does not state is null with the page it must be read from in `outstanding`, never a guess. Cards appear in no particular order and no issuer pays for placement. Reuse is recorded under the operator basis in docs/uk/source-rights-research.md (OGL v3; Open Banking Open Data Licence).

How often they are checked

The oldest figure here was read 34 days ago.

When a figure is not published

Not checked: we have not read this figure yet. None: the issuer publishes that there is no such fee. Not published: the issuer does not publish this figure. Not offered: the provider does not offer that market or product.

What sorting does

The default sort is an objective fact column, stated on the page. You can re-sort on any column. Nothing else influences order: not sponsorship, not affiliate rates, not how much a provider pays us.

Where the word best is allowed

Only in an editorial pick, only with a label, and only with the test written next to it — for example, lowest purchase rate on this list. We never say a product is best for you, because we know nothing about you.

How we are paid

No link on a comparison table is paid for. Institutions can pay for a labelled profile, which never changes a figure or a rank.

Reporting an error

Use the button below with the row and the figure you think is wrong. We check it against the provider's page, correct it if needed, and reset the checked date. Corrections are not held back for any commercial reason.
