Numbers you can check
money.financial exists because most financial calculators hide their working. You put in a salary, a number comes out, and you have no idea whether it used this year's rates or last year's.
Every calculator here names its source, shows the formula it used, and tells you when the rates were last checked. If you disagree with a number, you can see exactly where it came from and decide for yourself.
Rates and thresholds come from the bodies that publish them: HM Revenue & Customs for tax, the Bank of England for the official Bank Rate and the SONIA benchmark, the Office for National Statistics for the consumer prices index and the consumer prices index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH), and the Department for Work and Pensions for the State Pension. Where a figure is a published statistic we republish it with the date it was read and a link to the page it came from. Where it is arithmetic we do it here, and show the formula.

How we make money
Nothing yet. Advertising, sponsorship and a Pro embed licence are what this site intends to charge for; none of them can be bought today, and no money comes from readers. Ads, when they run, are labelled, kept below the answer, and never placed inside a result. Sponsors buy adjacency to a topic, never a mention in a calculation.
No advertiser has ever changed a number on this site, and none can. If that ever stops being true, this page will say so.
