Compare children's and youth accounts

The opening age and the age an account changes or ends, its monthly fee, interest and bonus conditions, card access and what happens at the age limit, for 12 children's and youth accounts from 7 banks. A headline rate and the condition needed to earn it stay in separate columns.

The two age gates are different

The age a child can open or operate an account is not necessarily the age the account ends or its fee treatment changes. Both answers stay visible, alongside the fee, interest, bonus condition and card access. A rate is never separated from the deposit, withdrawal or notice condition that changes whether it is earned.

4 accountspublish no closing age or continue without ending at an age; the row states what changes instead of inventing a ceiling.
2 accountscarry a deposit, withdrawal or notice condition beside the published interest rate.
1 accountspublish no card. Every other card cell states the card type and any age gate the bank publishes.
2 age answersare kept apart: when the account can be opened or operated, and what happens at its eligibility limit.

Not checked: we have not read this figure yet. None: the issuer publishes that there is no such fee. Not published: the issuer does not publish this figure. Not offered: the provider does not offer that market or product. * Details and conditions are in the expanded row.

How to read a youth account comparison

Read the two age answers separately. The age range says who can open or operate the account; the final column says whether it ends, changes, reprices or continues at the published age limit. A bank that publishes no ceiling stays without one.

Interest and its bonus conditions are also separate. A headline rate can depend on a deposit, no withdrawals, a balance step or notice before withdrawal, so the condition remains beside the rate rather than being reduced to a footnote.

Four distinctions the collection requires

Opening age and closing age are different gates
12 accounts from 7 banks state both what opens or operates the account and what the bank publishes about its age limit.
A headline rate needs its condition
ANZ Serious Saver and Westpac Bonus Saver publish rates that depend on deposit or withdrawal behaviour. Their rates and conditions remain in adjacent columns.
A stepped rate is not a bonus rate
The Co-operative Bank publishes one rate on the first balance step and another above it. The row calls that stepped pricing rather than describing it as a conditional bonus.
A feature is not a financial figure
Savings apps, money boxes and rewards programmes do not fill the fee or interest columns. Those columns contain only the figures and conditions the bank publishes.

Common questions

Does every youth account end at 18?
No. Some end, switch or change fee treatment at a stated age; others publish no closing age. The final column records the bank's own answer for each row.
Why are the interest rate and condition separate?
Because a conditional headline rate is not earned without its deposit, withdrawal, balance or notice rule. Separate columns keep both visible while preserving what each answer means.
Are accounts closed to new customers included?
No. ANZ Jumpstart is excluded because it closed to new customers, and branch-only or other-product-dependent accounts are excluded under the method shown above the table.
Does paying you move an account up the table?
No. No issuer pays for placement, and the source order remains until a reader chooses a column to sort.
