PAYE take-home pay calculator
Your take-home pay is what's left after income tax and the ACC earners' levy at 1.75% up to $156,641. KiwiSaver contributions at 3.5%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10% or 3% (temporary reduction) are deducted separately. Enter your salary to calculate.
How it works
New Zealand taxes income in bands. The first slice of your income is taxed at the lowest rate, the next slice at a higher one, and so on. Moving into a higher bracket only changes the tax on the income above that threshold, never on what you already earned.
On top of income tax, every earner pays the ACC earners' levy, capped above a set income. KiwiSaver and student loan repayments come out of the same pay cycle, which is why your take-home looks lower than a simple tax calculation suggests.
The brackets
These are the progressive annual rates for the 2026–27 tax year.
A worked example
On a $120,000 salary with 3.5% KiwiSaver and no student loan, the deductions stack up like this. Amounts are rounded to cents.
