Family grant and eligibility
HDB provides S$30,000 for a resale flat bought to live with parents or a child, or S$20,000 to live near them within 4 km. Couples or families must not have received PHG before. The applicant must be a Singapore Citizen aged at least 21, with at least one other Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident. Parents buying over their child's flat are ineligible. Singles have a separate schedule
The singles amounts are S$15,000 for living with parents or a child and S$10,000 for living near them within 4 km. The applicant must be a Singapore Citizen and must not have received PHG before. Applicants buying alone, with other single citizens or with parents must be aged at least 35; applicants buying with a non-resident spouse must be at least 21. Singles living near parents or a child are limited to 2- to 5-room flats; the PHG flat-type condition allows any flat type for singles living with them or applicants buying with a non-resident spouse. The relative and proximity conditions
The qualifying parent or child must be at least a Singapore Permanent Resident. Parents may be married, widowed or divorced; a single child must be aged at least 35 and unmarried, widowed or divorced. Relatives living together must be included in the HFE letter and resale application and remain resident during the minimum occupation period. For living nearby, the relative's NRIC address must reflect the qualifying home and the proximity rule must be observed during that period. HDB specifies qualifying ownership, registered occupancy or rental-tenancy conditions for the relative's home. HDB, Proximity Housing Grant for Families (opens in a new tab).
Lease and use of the family grant
The resale flat must have more than 20 years of lease remaining. Eligible core members receive their shares in CPF Ordinary Accounts. Core applicants can use PHG to offset the purchase price or reduce the required housing loan. Occupiers cannot use their CPF savings, including grants, for the purchase or loan servicing.
