What your numbers say

At the return you assumed
$556,494
by 65, on $42,000 today and 5% a year. Your assumption, worked through.
$159,548
of contributions over the 30 years, at 3.5% of salary.
$354,946
is what the assumed return adds over the term. It is an assumption, not a forecast.
$5,318
arrives each year from you, your employer at 3.5% and the government contribution, on the salary you entered.

How to use it

The projection is your assumption

The return is the one you enter, and the balance and salary are yours. Worked through the reviewed KiwiSaver arithmetic and compounded month by month, that gives one possible path to 65. It is not a forecast, not a promise, and investments do not return the same amount every year.

The contributions are the current rules

What reaches the fund each year is the employee contribution at the rate you pick, the employer's compulsory share after ESCT, and the government contribution where the salary allows it. Those come from the reviewed KiwiSaver rules, not from a rate this site publishes.

What is kept

This is one projection from the figures above, not a record of the past. No earlier balances have been recorded yet, so there are no saved years to chart against: the projection runs from the single balance you entered and the assumptions beside it.
