How KiwiSaver fees sit in 2026

What has not converged is disclosure. Some managers publish a single figure, others publish a maximum and note that expenses may be charged on top, and 6 do not address the member fee at all. That is why this table records three states for a fee rather than two, and why a scheme with a lower headline charge is not automatically cheaper.

16 schemes from 14 managers, and the 96 diversified and cash funds inside them.
5 of 16schemes publish no member fee, or publish it as zero. 6 do not address it at all, which we record as “Not published” rather than nil.
0.20–1.35%is the full spread of annual fund charges across every fund here. Inside a single scheme the spread can be 6-fold, which is why schemes are not ranked on it.
27 fundscarry a qualification the manager publishes alongside the figure — a maximum, an estimate, or expenses charged separately. Those sit on the fund's own row.
2 chargescome out of a KiwiSaver account: a percentage of your balance and a fixed dollar fee. They are never added together here, because the sum depends on your balance.

Not checked: we have not read this figure yet. None: the issuer publishes that there is no such fee. Not published: the issuer does not publish this figure. Not offered: the provider does not offer that market or product. * Details and conditions are in the expanded row.

How to read KiwiSaver fees

Two charges come out of a KiwiSaver account and they do not combine. The annual fund charge is a percentage of your balance and differs from fund to fund inside the same scheme. The member fee is a fixed dollar amount a year and is the same across every fund the scheme offers. Adding them together requires guessing your balance, so we never do it.

The charge range on each scheme row is the lowest and highest of its own funds. Nobody pays the range. Open a scheme to see what each of its funds actually charges, because the gap between a cash fund and a growth fund inside one scheme is often wider than the gap between two schemes.

Three traps in any KiwiSaver fee table

A fund name is a label, not a category
One manager's Balanced and another's Balanced target different allocations. We print each manager's own words and never group or filter on them, because doing so would assert an equivalence the published data does not support.
A fixed fee lands very differently on different balances
A $36 member fee is 3.6% of a $1,000 balance and 0.018% of a $200,000 one. That is why it is a separate column rather than folded into a percentage.
Not published is not zero
Where a manager's fee page does not mention a member fee, this table says so. 5 schemes here publish a nil or a zero; the rest simply do not address it, and we will not turn silence into a number.

Common questions

Why can I not sort by the cheapest fund?
Because the cheapest fund in a scheme is usually its cash fund, and ranking schemes on that would compare a cash fund against someone else's growth fund. Filter by manager, then compare funds inside the schemes you are actually choosing between.
Is the cheapest fund the best one?
No, and nothing on this page says so. Fees are the part of the decision that is knowable in advance. Returns are not.
What is a performance fee?
An extra charge some managers take when a fund beats a stated benchmark. Where a manager publishes the terms, they are on the fund's row, in the manager's own words.
Which funds are in this table?
The diversified multi-sector funds and the cash fund of each scheme, open to new members. Single-sector, thematic and geared funds are excluded because they are not like-for-like, as are funds closed to new investment.
