KiwiSaver contributions calculator
KiwiSaver employee contribution rates are 3%, 3.5%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%. Your employer adds 3.5% normally, or 3% while you are on the temporary reduction rate. The government adds 25 cents per dollar you contribute, up to $260.72 a year.
The employer amount is taxed before it arrives
Your employer's contribution has ESCT taken off it at a rate based on your income, so the amount reaching your account is smaller than the headline percentage suggests. Your own contribution comes from pay that has already been taxed, so it is not reduced again.
This scenario assumes your salary is your only taxable income and you meet the age and residence requirements for the full government-contribution year, 1 July to 30 June. Other taxable income counts towards the income cap. If you have other income or qualify for only part of the year, this result does not estimate your entitlement; check Inland Revenue's KiwiSaver benefits guidance.
The selected employee rate and assumed employer rate apply to the whole salary. There is no date selection, automatic rule selection or eligibility-day proration. A year spanning a rate change needs payday-level modelling that this scenario does not provide.
