Basic grant and unused room

Basic CESG is 20% of the first $2,500 contributed to an RESP annually, up to $500. With unused grant room, basic CESG can reach $1,000 on $5,000 of annual contributions. Grant room and contributions are different measures. ESDC, Canada Education Savings Grant (opens in a new tab).

Lifetime limit and scope

The lifetime maximum CESG is $7,200 per beneficiary. Additional CESG depends on family income, and beneficiaries aged 16 or 17 face additional eligibility conditions. This general explanation does not determine grant eligibility, account tax treatment or an individual payment. ESDC, Canada Education Savings Grant (opens in a new tab).
