A maximum is not a payment estimate
The tables show maximum payments only and do not determine payments for recipients of a partial OAS pension. GIS payments are not taxable. Payments are recalculated each July using net income in the previous calendar year. ESDC, table limitations and income review (opens in a new tab).
The actual GIS payment depends on marital status and prior-year income, including combined income for couples. Maximum amounts are not guaranteed. Cost-of-living adjustments occur in January, April, July and October; amounts do not decrease if the cost of living falls. ESDC, GIS payment calculation (opens in a new tab).
