Separate categories and member institutions

CDIC insures eligible deposits separately up to $100,000 in each category at each member institution, including principal and interest. The categories are deposits held in one name, jointly, in an RRSP, RRIF, TFSA, RDSP, RESP or FHSA, and in trust. CDIC, deposit insurance coverage (opens in a new tab).

An account label does not insure every investment

CDIC coverage applies to eligible deposits. Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and cryptocurrencies are not covered. Holding an investment inside a registered account does not make it an insured deposit. This general explanation does not establish coverage for a particular holding or institution.
